Binary Formation with Different Metallicities: Dependence on Initial Conditions
نویسندگان
چکیده
The fragmentation process in collapsing clouds with various metallicities is studied using three-dimensional nested-grid hydrodynamics. Initial clouds are specified by three parameters: cloud metallicity, initial rotation energy and initial cloud shape. For different combinations of these parameters, we calculate 480 models in total and study cloud evolution, fragmentation conditions, orbital separation and binary frequency. For the cloud to fragment during collapse, the initial angular momentum must be higher than a threshold value, which decreases with decreasing metallicity. Although the exact fragmentation conditions depend also on the initial cloud shape, this dependence is only modest. Our results indicate a higher binary frequency in lower-metallicity gas. In particular, with the same median rotation parameter as in the solar neighbourhood, a majority of stars are born as members of binary/multiple systems for < 10−4Z⊙. With initial mass < 0.1M⊙, if fragments are ejected in embryo from the host clouds by multi-body interaction, they evolve to substellar-mass objects. This provides a formation channel for low-mass stars in zeroor low-metallicity environments.

متن کاملBinary Formation in Star-Forming Clouds with Various Metallicities
Cloud evolution for various metallicities is investigated by three-dimensional nested grid simulations, in which the initial ratio of rotational to gravitational energy of the host cloud β0 (= 10 –10) and cloud metallicity Z (= 0–Z⊙) are parameters. Starting from a central number density of nc = 10 4 cm, cloud evolution for 48 models is calculated until the protostar is formed (nc ≃ 10 23 cm) o...
متن کاملRelative frequencies of supernovae types: dependence on host galaxy magnitude, galactocentric radius and local metallicity
Context. Stellar evolution theory suggests that the relationship between number ratios of supernova (SN) types and metallicity holds important clues as to the nature of the progenitor stars (mass, metallicity, rotation, binarity, etc). Aims. We investigate the metallicity dependence of number ratios of various SN types, using a large sample of SN along with information on their radial position ...

The complexation reactions between Mg2+, Ca2+, Sr2+ and Ba2+ metal cations with 15-crown-5 (15C5) were studied in acetonitrile (AN)-methanol (MeOH) binary mixtures at different temperatures using conductometric method. 15C54 forms 1:1 complexes with Mg2+, Ca2+ and Sr2+ cations in solutions. The Ma2+ cati...
متن کاملOn the Origin of the Metallicity Dependence in Dynamically Formed Extragalactic Low-mass X-ray Binaries
Globular clusters (GCs) effectively produce dynamically-formed low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs). Observers detect ∼ 100 times more LMXBs per stellar mass in GCs compared to stars in the fields of galaxies. It has also been observationally established that metal-rich GCs are about 3 times more likely to contain an X-ray source than their metal-poor counterparts. Recent observations have shown tha...
